TRUE!-NERVOUS–very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am! but why will you say that I am mad?

This, one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous stories and a classic of the Gothic genre, remains as horrifying today as it was upon its first publication in The Pioneer in 1843. It also provides an excellent example of the “unreliable narrator”, who inadvertently betrays more about himself than he will ever realise.
